DHL Web Shipping FAQ

How do I get Web Shipping?

There is no shipping software to install on your computer. Web Shipping runs from the DHL Internet site using a web browser. Just go to Web Shipping, register and login.

What are the requirements for using Web Shipping?

To use Web Shipping, you need:

  • E-mail address
  • IBM-compatible PC running Windows NT, 95, 98 or 2000 ·
  • Laser printer
  • DHL account number
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer v.5.0 or higher, or Netscape Navigator v.4.5 or higher. Your browser should have Java script and cookies enabled.

Why do I need a laser printer? Can't I use an ink jet printer instead?

The reason is for the barcode quality. DHL relies on air waybill barcodes to automatically route and track shipments through checkpoints worldwide. Barcodes printed by ink jet printers routinely experience scanning problems; this can result in delivery delays because additional manual processing is required.

Barcodes printed by laser printers do not have scanning problems. (It is more difficult to generate a good quality barcode when printing through a browser, as Web Shipping does, than using PC software.)

Can more than one person register with the same DHL account?

Yes. This means that everyone at your company can register and use Web Shipping whenever needed.

How do I change my password or other registration information?

To change any of your registration information, including your password or e-mail address, login to Web Shipping and choose the 'User Profile' option. When your profile displays, update your information and click 'Submit'.

How do I know that I'm really registered? Will I get an e-mail confirmation?

It may take a few moments for your registration to be processed. Do not click the Submit button more than once. If registration is successful, the 'Welcome to Web Shipping' page appears, and you can begin using Web Shipping. You will also receive an e-mail confirming your successful registration. If registration fails, an error message will display, indicating what the problem is.

I'm using the correct password, but Web Shipping won't let me login.

If you can't login after entering the correct e-mail address and password, Web Shipping is experiencing a system problem. Please wait a while and then try again. If you are still unable to log in, please contact your local DHL office.

Do I need a DHL account to ship?

You need a DHL account number to register with Web Shipping. However, you can bill shipments that you process on Web Shipping to a recipient/third-party DHL account number.

How many air waybill copies must I print?

You should print one air waybill for each package in the shipment (the package copy) plus one additional air waybill copy if the shipment is declarable. Declarable shipments require an additional air waybill copy to facilitate Customs clearance at the destination.

My printer jammed when I tried to print the air waybill. What now?

Try to fix the printer problem and print while the air waybill is still displayed. If this doesn't work, click 'Cancel Shipment' at the bottom of the page. If you cannot fix the printer before giving the shipment to DHL, you must manually complete a standard DHL air waybill.

My computer went down after I entered my shipment information. What now?

If the air waybill for the shipment had displayed on screen, its information is saved in the Shipment Log. Go to the Shipment Log and click on the shipment's air waybill number. When its shipment receipt displays, click the reprint button.
If Web Shipping had not yet displayed the shipment's air waybill, the data has been lost. You must enter the shipment information again.

Can I customise the software?

The information in your User Profile sets several Web Shipping defaults, such as your usual packaging type and pick-up information.

Can I transfer my address book from DHL Connect (or other software) into Web Shipping?

There currently is no way to transfer address information from DHL Connect or other software products into Web Shipping. We will provide a way to transfer DHL Connect addresses into Web Shipping sometime in the future.

How many recipient addresses can Web Shipping store?

Web Shipping stores 300 recipient addresses. This will increase in the near future.

Do I need a DHL account to ship?

You need a DHL account number to register with Web Shipping. However, you can bill shipments that you process on Web Shipping to a recipient/third-party DHL account number.
